Au Fils Des Saisons (again)

Went back to an old favorite of mine - Au Fil Des Saisons. Raf, Amir, and Nina have not been here yet.

I ordered foie again (call me crazy). It wasn’t as good as last night but still ok.
Photobucket

I had to order the goose again. I loved it.
Photobucket

They added grapes, and onions cooked in red wine and jus which was an excellent idea.
Photobucket

And they changed the potatoes to gratin which was also a good idea. The potatoes last time were too rich. These were still rich but tastier.
Photobucket

Raf and Nina both got the confit de canard (cooked for 7 hours, their signature). Raf left the plate totally clean.

Here is Amir with his dish of cote de veau in a truffle jus. He LOVES truffles, can’t you tell? This dish was really good.
Photobucket

For dessert, trio of 3 chocolat fondants.
Photobucket

I was so stuffed by this point but managed to eat one of them and a bite of the rest. I didn’t want to insult the owner of the place by not finishing my food. ;) Nina got a lot of shit for not finishing everything. It was hilarious.

Another excellent meal. I think that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.

Ferrandi visit + Robert & Louise

Stopped by ESCF Ferrandi so that I could finally show what I had been doing for 9 months. Raf was quite impressed and a little inspired to take a class or two.

Here he is in my chef whites. It fits him perfectly! Wth!

Here is Chef doing a demo.
Photobucket

And Amir working hard! (More like hardly working)
Photobucket

And here we are trying to look tough.
Photobucket

We had reservations at lunch at Robert & Louise right after. Sound familiar? It was presented on Bourdain’s show when he visited Paris. I had been anticipating this visit for quite some time.

Here I am showing off my new favorite t-shirt that Raf bought me.

All the meat here is cooked over a charcoal grill which I LOVE. The tiny restaurant is semi filled with smoke when you walk in.

It was an f’in good decision to come here. We ordered the Cote de Beouf for two people.
Photobucket

SO GOOD!!! Perfectly cooked, medium rare beef. Duck-fat fried potatoes. Fresh salad. Red Wine. Fresh baguette. Water. Everything you need for a healthy and balanced diet, non ?
Photobucket

And they gave us a free lemon meringue tart !
Photobucket

Ahhhh we were definitely happy after this meal and did a pretty good job finishing 99% of everything. Food coma was taking over quickly so we met up with Amir, Amanda, and Anistar at Café Malonga.

What a wonderful day so far.

La Gazetta and Nina day

Grabbed lunch with Nina today at La Gazzetta (referral from the book Hungry for Paris). Some dishes were good like the sardine rillettes (ummm garlic, eggplant, red peppers) and the chou-fleur soup (cauliflower - simple but delicious). And also "foie de volaille" (poultry/chicken liver) on a thin piece of pita-type bread. It tasted like vomit/stomach acid. Major turn-off. *Shudders.* I had a beef dish with spinach and squash that was pretty good. Nina had a braised beef dish which she did not like. Overall it was decent for the price but I probably won't go back.

Massa-san, my colleague from my last resto was supposed to work here in December. Unfortunately, the contract fell through. He happened to be in Paris that day and actually stopped by the resto to see if the chef was in. He ended up walking around Paris with us.

We walked from the Bastille all the way to the Pompidou and Les Halles.

We went to Chez George which is (on the top floor of the Pompidou) to have ridiculously expensive smoothies that aren't as good as back in the States. The French have just begun catching on to the smoothie craze.

See Sacre Coeur ? I'd love to live in Montmartre someday.

This is a place where all the trendy folks and hipsters go to hang out. It has a beautiful ambiance - can't say much about the food.

Earlier, I had stopped by Pain de Sucre to grab a little gateau for Nina's late birthday treat. I had tried to work something out earlier in the week but we were both too busy to meet up even though we live one stop away from each other now. So Nina ended up carrying her lil treat the entire afternoon. Didn't get a chance to munch on it until we sat down at Chez George.

Tant pis !

The lil gateau was SUPER rich and heavy on the green tea. One bite was enough for me. Pretty good though. As for the pain au chocolat, I've had better.

I had a lot of errands to run, and thankfully, Nina was very patient and came with me. I had to go to H&M since it was the only place that carried baby clothes. H&M at Les Halles is like COSTCO in Sunnyvale. On a Saturday afternoon. *Shudders again* But I got that over with. We ended up walking around rue Montorgeuil, then through rue de St. Denis where the prostitutes were getting ready for work. Then all the way back to the 18th. Didn't take one metro - it was nice! I need to do this more often. Didn't get back home until around 20h30 ! Was a pretty productive day.

Au Fils Des Saisons

Tonight Andrew, Chris, and his friend Tara from out of town, and I went to eat at Au Fils Des Saisons. A quaint little bistro with no sign in front on a quaint little street in the 3rd. We were all quite late but fortunately they were not mad at all (it was empty at that moment). The food there is fabulous ! I loved the little details they put into their dishes as well as the decor of the place.

Look how cute !

I ordered the seared foie gras with lentilles and sausage. This was heavenly. The foie was melt in your mouth perfect. The combination of the lentilles and sausage was delicious. Very rich so of course I had Andrew help me finish it.
Photobucket

Andrew's scallop dish. Good shit.
Photobucket

Chris ordered tortellini. Ummmm
Photobucket

Perfectly perfectly cooked magret de canard. I am getting hungry again just thinking about it. The tomatoes were so delicious. The pomme de terre was good but really rich - they could have reduced the size of it. Andrew helped me finish, of course.
Photobucket

Their signature "cooked for 7 hours" confit de canard dish. Andrew and Tara ordered it and said it was super bon.
Photobucket

Traditional Millefeuille. In school, we baked our millefeuille until it was golden brown, but traditionally, they are cooked this dark so it has a bit of that bitter, burned taste. I have yet to 100% acquire a taste for the burnt millefeuille (I am more at a 51%), I would say this was properly executed. The custard and fresh fruit was delicious. Not too sweet which is the way I like it.
Photobucket

The strawberry coulis served with it.
Photobucket

Overall, great place. Nice atmosphere, deliciously presented food, and great prices for the quality of the 3-course prix fixe - 31 Euro. I will definitely be back.
